Advanced Drone Technology Watching Over Us

In Police or Fire emergencies, first responders often bear the same life-threatening risks as the victims themselves. Our multi-functional AE-5 unmanned first responder drones can increase the chances of success of any rescue operation and save more than just the lives of an emergency victim.

The primary goals are to map locations and mark potential hazards for the rescuers themselves. Secondary goals are to achieve total over-watch and situational awareness by continuously assessing threats, monitor crowd and traffic patterns and identify problem areas from above. Drone over-watch provides continuous and invaluable situational awareness of any emergency.

Being multi functional, our drones can also achieve a number of tasks through using different payloads such as;

  • Live video feed – continuous video to a Command Center

  • Tracking camera – follow targets of interest

  • 40 x zoom camera – zoom in on targets of interest, recording evidence

  • Wide angle camera – for recording evidence

  • FLIR – heat seeking signatures for night time operations

  • Loud speaker – crowd control

Drone Overwatch

Helicopters are vital for retrieving survivors quickly, but they are not ideal for mapping missions due to their narrow field of view and the amount of turbulence created by their rotor blades. Whirled-up debris from destroyed houses and objects poses a threat to rescue workers’ safety, In colder temperatures, the whipped-up cold air can make it unbearable for personnel on the ground. Drones are much better suited to this kind of mission.

The BroUAV MX450 allows for pre-planned fixed flight routes, which makes comparing mapping results much easier, since the positions and way-points from which the ground was surveyed did not change with each flight like they would if the photos had been taken from a helicopter. This allows for an accurate analysis of changes in the environment that hint towards structural hazards in the ground.

Help from Above

Time is of the essence when dealing with search and rescue operations. Drones can help greatly decrease the search area, provide oversight for coordination of teams, and pinpoint locations and directions, increasing the odds of survival. Our AE-5 multi-purpose drones can also be equipped with a payload drop system, which allows crews to get life-saving tools, supplies, or communication devices to subjects should ground resources be delayed or if bad weather delays rescue from the ground. These items can be dropped to the subject using pin point GPS accuracy.

In a situation where a person would need to be lifted from their position, water and communication devices can be dropped to sustain them and maintain contact until a crew can arrive to lift them from their position.

One option often overlooked is the ability to add spotlights to drones. Once manned crews have arrived on a scene, having an overhead spotlight can free up their hands to focus on their work.

First Responders – Eye in the Sky

Drones can view accident areas or overcrowded bystander areas and provide guidance for traffic flow for invaluable oversight in a Police or Fire emergencies. Rescue helicopters can act as first responder, however, drones have greater oversight, can stay airborne longer and are cheaper to deploy. This allows the more expensive helicopter to be released for the next emergency.

Drones can also take recordings of a crime scene that help police observe details from angles they might have otherwise missed. Drones with object tracking and geotagging capabilities can help better analyse crime.

Research and Development

How new technology can keep us safer at the beach

Working with our drone manufacturer BROUAV, SkyTech is developing a Surf Life Saving drone. Supporting the standard RIB, the quick response drone is deployed in seconds to deploy a floatation device assisting swimmers in distress until the RIB arrives.

The SLD-9 is a multi-functional drone which can be equipped with a variety of payloads such as;

  • Quick response – deploy a drones in seconds to deliver a floatation device

  • Live video – over-watch surveillance of crowded swimming areas

  • Monitoring sea conditions – pre warning of large wave sets or sharks

  • Loud speaker – warn swimmers of danger or venturing outside the flags

  • Dye marking – easy identification, track RIP activity and flows

  • Shark repellent deployment

Surf Life saving clubs went from the reel to rescue tubes, to boards, then to inflatable boats and jet skis, so this is just another level in that rescue capability. Drones are the future.

In the near future Surf Life Saving Clubs nationwide will be equipped with this state of the art drone technology.
